LADY MJ aka WARRIOR
Before D&B what did you listen to? I like to listen to lots of different styles of music but there is something about dnb that my soul connects to
Who are your musical influences outside of D&B? There are so many inspiring people that I appreciates but I would have to say beautiful strong females- Beyonce, Pink, Christina Aguilera. The bwoys Eminem, Dan Le Sac, Natty, Stevie wonder is a ledg- As an artist with health issues myself, it's great to see some one succeed and not let their health affect them as I try not too
How did you get involved in the D&B scene? I started off doing down tempo 3 years ago I was studying my vocal course at college and me and my friends went to a bar that was playing DNB…they was looking for artist n I walked through the door!
How long have you been Mcing for? I did my first rap in 1997 me and my school friends won a Christmas rap contest and got the chance to perform on local radio- I wish I had the tape-I messed up! I used to mess around when I was older until this voice from within came out haha!
What's been your best gig so far? I've had some awesome gigs and the crowds are quality- I love my supporters they are so loyal- so big ups them! How can you choose your best gig! Maybe when I dressed as super girl that was FUN!
Who are your favourite Dj's & Mc's in the scene right now? Gota big up DJ CKB, DJ Velocity, lady V Dubz, Andy Massive, Shy FX, Andy C, Friction, MC's Harry Shotta, Youngman, lady Blazer, Fatman D, SK n TNT are bad bwoys
What makes a good Drum & Bass Mc in your opinion? Lots' of things- the way you interact with crowd, Stage presence, lyrical content, you need a good flow and be versatile with it! Supporting your DJ
Do you find you get treated differently being a Female Mc in the Scene? Well lets not beat around the bush, I don't look like your typical “MC” Yes I do get stick sometimes haha but I just let the music do the talking! I do have some great supporters who push me all the way regardless – so nuf respect!
When writing new lyrics, do you have a set formula you work to, if so what? I have so many different methods and formats and depends what I am writing too and what it is about as I perform to all Urban
Anyone in particular you'd like to collaborate with in the future? People who are dedicated and committed and have drive and of course- talent! : )
Any advice or tips you can pass on to up‘n'coming Mc's? Don't chat over vocals, interact with the crowd remember its about the atmosphere- DJ, the crowd. Don't try and imitate another MC-find you own style and embrace that- remember less is better- you don't have to try and spit a million words at once- enjoy your performance!
Your very busy writing new material, performing & Recording etc but finding time to do modelling as well. What is your future plans, TV, Radio? Yes modelling is just on the side- Music is my passion- my lyrics come from the heart and I hope to inspire others. I do enjoy presenting aswell MTV was awesome! www.myspace.com/theladymjmodelpage
If you could play @ a party of your choice, with a line up of your choice, where would you play and who would you be Mc'n with? I would want a dnb tropical beach party! I would have to make it a week thing so I could get all the talent & supporters : ) Check out Lady MJ on Myspace - www.myspace.com/theladymj
